Euflexxa Injections
Euflexxa® injections are a type of viscosupplementation used to help relieve pain and improve movement in people with osteoarthritis of the knee. The treatment involves injecting a purified form of hyaluronic acid— a substance naturally found in joint fluid—directly into the knee joint. This helps restore lubrication and cushioning, reducing friction and inflammation so the joint can move more comfortably. Euflexxa is typically given as a short course of 3 injections and may provide longer-lasting relief for patients who have not achieved adequate benefit from pain medication, physiotherapy, or other conservative treatments.
FAQs
Do I need an appointment for a Euflexxa Injection?
Yes, all Euflexxa Injections require an appointment. Please contact our clinic by phone, visit us in person, or submit your referral to book the next available time.
What is a Euflexxa Injection?
EUFLEXXA is a sterile, gel-like product containing purified hyaluronan (sodium hyaluronate), a natural substance found in joint tissues and fluid. It acts as a lubricant and shock absorber, helping joints move smoothly. In osteoarthritis, cartilage wears down and hyaluronan levels decrease, reducing joint function. EUFLEXXA helps supplement this loss to support joint movement.

- Non-Surgical Option: Provides relief without the need for surgery or daily medication.
- Long-Lasting Relief: May offer symptom relief for up to 6 months after a full treatment cycle.

Preparation for your procedure
Specific preparation instructions will be provided at the time of booking. In general, you may be asked to:
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
- Provide details of any recent imaging or reports
- Arrange for someone to drive you home if advised
Please inform our team if you are taking blood-thinning medications or have any medical conditions that may affect the procedure.
What happens during the procedure?
Euflexxa treatment is delivered over three sessions, spaced two weeks apart. At each appointment, you will receive a CT-guided injection of Euflexxa directly into the affected joint, administered in a sterile clinical setting. Maximum benefits are typically observed after completing all three injections, with relief lasting up to six months.
A member of our clinical team will explain the procedure and answer any questions before you begin. During the procedure:
- CT imaging is used to accurately guide needle placement
- The injection or treatment is performed quickly and with minimal discomfort
- Most procedures are completed within a short timeframe
You may feel a brief sting from the local anaesthetic or mild pressure during the injection. In some cases, there may be a short-lived increase in pain when treating nerve-related conditions, which usually settles quickly.
After the procedure, the radiologist will prepare a report for your referring doctor.
How does Euflexxa compare with Steroid Injections?
Euflexxa can provide relief for up to 6 months, steroids often offer short-term relief
Euflexxa supplements natural joint fluid. Steroid when used repeatedly, may weaken cartilage and accelerate joint degeneration over time
Who should not have a Euflexxa Injection?
- Previous allergic reaction to Euflexxa or hyaluronan products
- Joint infection or infections around the injection site
- Euflexxa has not been tested in pregnant women.
What are the costs?
Euflexxa injections are bulk billed with a valid Medicare card.
When will my report be ready?
